Yours in Scouting, Kyle Donovan Committee Chairman Have you ever gone to bed hungry? Ever worried where your next meal will come from? If you answered "no" to those questions, you are very fortunate. Here are some food facts about Dallas county and the North Texas area:
Fortunately, we have two local organizations that focus on families suffering food insecurity: Network of Community Ministries and the North Texas Food Bank. These organization work together, and once each year the Boy Scouts of Circle Ten Council hold a food drive that supports their efforts. All food collected by Troop 444 will go to Network of Community Ministries to help folks in our local area. Scouting for Food always happens during the month of February:
Our council collected nearly 225,000 cans of food last year, and the Scouts are hoping to exceed those totals this year! Thank you for helping our Scouts to make a difference in our community. Stay tuned! More information to come shortly. In 2015, the BSA acquired a troop management software company called Scoutbook. Ever since, they have been working to replace their aging legacy applications with this software-as-a-service product. The BSA has now set a timeline to retire "internet advancement," which is the current interface for third-party troop management systems (like ours). With the roll-out of "Scoutbook Lite" in January, they have stated that all advancement data must use Scoutbook by sometime in the second quarter of this year. "There are no current plans to roll out APIs to third parties." Your troop committee has started working on migration to the Scoutbook platform, and we will start with our registered adult leaders. After our leaders are onboard, we will follow-up with a parent orientation session and then the full-scale deployment. This is just an informational message, there is nothing for you to do right now, other than view the Scoutbook introduction video below. When we have completed the bulk of the data migration work, you will receive an invitation to join Scoutbook from our leaders. Scouts, parents, family, and friends: You are all invited to attend our Court of Honor this Monday evening. Please join us for a celebration of the ranks, merit badges, and other achievements earned by our Scouts since September. Monday's activities shape up like this:
Nothing inspires advancement so much as a lively troop program. Take care of the program, and advancement will be an inevitable outcome. Note: The trip is still open for additional participants, but your window of opportunity is closing fast because we are finalizing travel plans. Age requirement is 14. If you would like to join us, please let me know ASAP.
This will be an amazing trip! Our scheduled trip dates (including travel) are June 20–30, 2019. We will camp on our way to and from West Virginia. The total cost for the trip is $1,000. Our payment plan has been communicated previously. The Troop has already made our deposit and paid the first 1/2 of our balance. Please start making your payments to T444 to reimburse the Troop treasury! If you have any questions, just click on my name below to ask via email. YIS, Craig Parrish |
