Monday’s activities shape up like this:
Robbers Cave State Park is located in the scenic, hilly woodlands of the Sans Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. It is a 8,246-acre park named for the famous outlaw cave (Jesse James and Belle Starr) hidden in the formation of sandstone hills and cliffs ranging from 300 to 1,500-ft in height. This park is a favorite of rappellers, equestrians, hikers and outdoor lovers. The park and adjoining wildlife management area offers acres of discovery and enjoyment including trout fishing in season, hunting, miles of hiking and equestrian trails, rugged cliffs for climbing and fall foliage viewing. Click here for more information about Robbers Cave State Park. Opportunity for: horseback riding, Horsemanship Merit badge, service hours, conservation hours, hikiing, fishing, and fun! We will be helping the state park conservationist with trail clean-up and erosion control by Robber's Cave.
Friends of Scouting (also known as FOS), is the council-level annual giving campaign. In the Circle Ten council, Friends of Scouting represents 30% of an operating budget that supports 57,000 youth members. These funds provide volunteer and staff training, insurance coverage, support staff, camps, equipment, recognitions for leaders, administrative needs, AV supplies, a council website, scholarships, and so much more... For more information about Friends of Scouting: Employee match programs
Some companies will match their employees’ charitable contributions. Be sure to see whether your workplace has such a program. If so, you could double (or triple) your impact! We typically don't have a formal Troop meeting on the Mondays immediately following a camp-out. Instead we hold "Class B" meetings. Scout pants and a Troop t-shirt are appropriate attire for individual or Patrol work on assigned responsibilities. Scouts needing a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review should schedule with leaders ahead of a time to ensure enough adults are present to conduct these sessions (please be in full uniform if you need a Scoutmaster Conference or Board of Review). The Patrol Leaders’ Council (PLC) meets monthly to fine-tune the plans for the upcoming month. The PLC is made up of the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), who presides over the meetings, the Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (ASPLs), Patrol Leaders (PLs), and Troop Guides (TGs). The Troop Scribe also attends to take notes and keep the minutes. If you hold one of the leadership positions listed above, you are expected to attend. If you are unable to attend, it is your responsibility to find someone to attend in your absence. Monday’s activities shape up like this:
For those of you not attending the Canoeing Camp Out, we need some help with a fundraiser. A nearby Homeowner's Association has asked us to deliver flyers to their residents on Saturday, April 13th. They make a donation to the troop to thank us for this service. Your participation will be considered in your next campership application.
We are looking for 1-2 more adults and 4-6 more scouts to make the task go quickly. Donuts included! Email Katrina Gray if you can be there: [email protected] When: Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 1 pm -3 pm Where: Oak Point Recreation Center Cost: $3/Scout, $6/Adult The purpose of this event: Allow the Troop Scouts and Adults a chance to pass the BSA Swim Test prior to our Canoeing Camp-out. This is a test that we administer annually that covers any water events the Troop chooses to undertake until next spring. Swim tests are also mandatory for those attending summer camp and aquatic high adventure bases (Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Summit Whitewater Crews). All Scouts are encouraged to attend (otherwise you will need to find an alternate way to demonstrate you've completed the classification test described below). See the flier for full details BSA SWIM TEST Guide to Safe Scouting says: Operation of any boat on a float trip is limited to youth and adults who have completed the BSA swimmer classification test. Swimmers must complete the following test, which must be administered annually. Jump feetfirst into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating. Note: It is not a timed test, you just have to complete the requirements. Any Scouts that are First Class or above can leave at this point. TFC RANK REQUIREMENTS: If some want to stay and work on swimming requirements, they are listed on the flier. I wondered if there were YouTube videos for these requirements, and OF COURSE THERE ARE… Lester Cox Scoutmaster T444 |
