- 442,920 people living in Dallas county (nearly 1 in 5) suffer from food insecurity
- Kids are disproportionately affected. Over 300,000 children in North Texas (1 in 4) are food insecure
- In North Texas, 1 in 6 food-insecure households is home to a Veteran
Fortunately, we have two local organizations that focus on families suffering food insecurity: Network of Community Ministries and the North Texas Food Bank. These organization work together, and once each year the Boy Scouts of Circle Ten Council hold a food drive that supports their efforts. All food collected by Troop 444 will go to Network of Community Ministries to help folks in our local area.
Scouting for Food always happens during the month of February:
- February 4th @ Troop Meeting - Setup two collection boxes for AUMC
- Between 2/5 and 2/23 - Promote, Promote, Promote!
- February 23rd:
- Meet for planning and donuts
- Go door-to-door in our assigned area and collect food
- Gather food from AUMC collection boxes
- Take all donations to collection point
Our council collected nearly 225,000 cans of food last year, and the Scouts are hoping to exceed those totals this year! Thank you for helping our Scouts to make a difference in our community.
Stay tuned! More information to come shortly.
