But at the same time, it will be nice to get back to the routine of schoolwork, school activities, and out-of-school activities. Of course the boys would like for summer to go on forever, but then there would be no lesson that the world expects more out of us all than to sit by the pool all day. The world out there expects that we will be ready for what lies ahead, so while much of this week still involves relaxation, some of it also involves preparation. Preparation in terms of school supplies and orientations, in terms of getting haircuts and doctors appointments, and in terms of getting things on the calendar.
Preparations for the troop year are no exception. The best example of this is this very web page you are reading right now. Extensive preparations have been done by Will Woodard and Steve Sweeney to bring about this revamped web page, and the results are excellent! Soon it will be made even better by the contributions of the members of our troop. In addition, our camping schedule for the year is set and it features lots of fun activities, some of which are the same as in past years, while others are new. Be sure to make note of the dates of our campouts from the months of September through May, which can be found on the "Calendar" part of the web page. Our first campout comes along promptly on September 20 and 21, which will be spent at Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
I am very grateful for all of the contributions of the adult leaders of our troop in getting ready for this year. A little bit of preparation from each of them has set us up for a very successful program. And we have lots of new families to welcome into the troop, bringing fresh leadership and fresh ideas that will make next year look even more vibrant than this one. For those of you who want to get involved but aren't sure how, a good starting point is to come to our first troop committee meeting, which will be on Monday, September 8th at 6:30pm. Come and see what all is involved in preparing for the activities our boys wish to organize, as well as how we do fundraising, how we interact with our council, and how we can support our charter organization, Arapaho United Methodist Church, and our community at large.
