Even if your Scout already has the merit badge, or is not quite ready to spend the night in a shelter, we encourage them to come for this training and use this time to hone their outdoor skills:
- Try to build a friction fire
- Build a fish trap
- Make a solar still
- These are the building blocks for Scouting and our High Adventure programs. Plus it’s a lot of fun!
Each Scout needs to prepare a “survival kit” consisting of a 10 oz. (preferably metal) coffee can and a water bottle. This is the kit that they will use for the weekend. Building the kit is a requirement for the merit badge. Examples of its contents are:
- Water purification tablets
- Fishing kit (line, hooks, sinkers, a bobber)
- Knife or multi-tool
- Water / windproof matches
- Survival blanket
- Whistle
- Compass
- 25 feet of cordage
- Duct tape
- Garbage bag
- Flex saw
- Flint and steel striker
- Firestarter material (cotton balls w/ Vaseline, drier lint, etc)
- Plastic bag
- Etc. – Most of these items can be found at WalMart.
If you haven't already, please let me know if you plan to attend. Luke A. is our Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) for this camp-out, and we have already begun building our roster.
If you have any questions, please let me know by clicking my name below.
