Kilts are not required, but they are strongly suggested! The camp will have a limited number of kilts available for scouts to wear during competition. You may also make a kilt, or there are a number of cheap kilt providers in the US for lightweight, simple kilts in standard tartans. Stillwater kilts sells a very cheap "thrifty kilt" that is good for getting used to wearing a kilt, if you are so inclined.

The camp is approximately 2 1/2 hours away on I-35, depending on traffic. Check in is Saturday morning from 7-830 AM, and the games run from 9 am until early afternoon. In order to get there on time in the morning we will have to leave the church by 5am.
I am willing to head down there on Friday with the trailer pre-loaded with patrol boxes and personal gear. I plan to be at the scout hut Thursday evening from 7-8 pm in order for scouts to drop off their personal gear. This will allow for a quicker departure for the group leaving in the morning on Saturdaydue to band/athletic conflicts.
Scouts without any conflicts are welcome to depart with me on Friday, but it will be dependent on having enough adults and drivers. If you are interested in leaving on Friday please let me know so we can coordinate.
The Salado Scottish Festival is also ongoing during this weekend, and is only a short drive from camp. We plan to visit the festival on Saturday following the conclusion of the Highland Games to allow all scouts to explore, and possibly try some authentic Scottish dishes (the Haggis is quite good!). If the Highland Games does not allow us for enough time to attend on Saturday we will visit Sunday morning after breakfast for a few hours before returning to Richardson.

Cost for this campout is as follows:
$18 for the Highland Games (this includes a T-shirt)
$15 for entry to the Salado Scottish Festival
Grub fee (tbd)
Spending money for the festival (food prices are similar to state fair levels, so budget accordingly, and there are many vendors with items for sale)
Lunch on Sunday
Patrols will be responsible for lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Scouts leaving on Friday will need a sack dinner, and should have a plan for breakfast on Saturday. IF we do not eat at the festival for lunch then there will likely be a fast food stop on the way back as well.
I will need to register our troop to attend by 11/18 in order to secure the cheaper early bird pricing. If you are planning on going, please let me know your T-shirt size for each person attending, and bring your $18 Highland Games fee to next Monday's troop meeting as funds are due in advance. The Salado Scottish Festival entry fee is paid at the gate.
In the event that you do not pay in advance, the fee jumps to $23, and you run the risk of not getting a T-shirt in your size if you are a very late addition.
I will be at the next meeting to answer any questions and collect your camp fee.
Thanks,
Kevin McClelland
