This is backpacking, but a level that all scouts can participate in, so no minimum age limits here! A great start to build towards more adventurous trips.
Details:
- The camp-out will be at the LBJ National Grasslands near Decatur.
- Directions and trail maps can be found here: Grasslands Gazette
- We’ll leave Friday, April 21st from the scout hut and camp our first night at our arrival point at the grasslands.
- Saturday morning, we’ll cook breakfast and get some experience with backpacking stoves, pack up and hike out to our next campsite.
- The hike will be 2 to 3 miles, easily doable for everyone!
- More cooking, camp setup, water purification techniques and just general enjoying nature will follow….
- The next morning, on Sunday, we’ll hike back to our starting point.
As I mentioned, open to all, but I need to know who will be going. We need to know by April 10th, our upcoming troop meeting. We need to know early because:
- No meeting on Mon, 4/17, due to a School Holiday (RISD)
- Also, we need to make sure we have enough equipment (backpacks, backpacking tents, stoves, freeze dried food, etc.).
So… please let me know three things ASAP (before April 10th):
- If you are planning to go, and
- If you need to borrow a backpack!
- We’ll need adults on this trip too of course, let me know if you’re planning to come as well.
Also, let me know if you have questions (e-mail me by clicking my name below).
Thanks,
Mello Elout
