For the Cooking Merit Badge there are quite a few meal preparation requirements. We’ll focus on:
- #5. Camp cooking (at the March 24 – 26 campout)
- #6. Trail and backpacking meals (at the April 21 – 23 backpacking campout)
We’ll meet on the Monday’s before the campout to go over some theory and plan the meals for the upcoming campout. Then, on the Thursday before the campout we’ll meet at a store to procure the needed ingredients and at the campouts themselves we’ll cook!
For the March campout, the dates and times are as follows:
- March 20: 6:30PM – 7:30PM, meet at AUMC to go over theory and plan meals
- March 23: 7:30PM – till we’re done, buy the needed ingredients
- March 24 – 26: Campout
The schedule for the April campout will be similar.
So… I’m looking for scouts that are interested to commit to doing these activities! If you sign up, you need to be available for the planning on the Monday, the purchasing on the Thursday and the campout itself.

Also, you need to be at least of rank First Class (or… have completed all cooking related requirements in TFC).
What if you’re not yet First Class you may ask? Good news is that Mr. Lester Cox is working on a similar opportunity for you to complete cooking requirements for TFC at the March campout. More to follow on this opportunity!
