This year we are returning to Camp Trevor Rees-Jones in Athens, TX, scheduled for 12/27 to 12/31. There will be 3 days of activities consisting of merit badge classes in the morning and a number of fun free time activities in the afternoon.
Winter camp is an excellent opportunity for newer scouts to complete a number of requirements. They offer a good Trail to First Class (TFC) which will take up your 3 morning class slots.
Additionally, for they are offering some special experiences for older Scouts:
- 14 and up - The Life of a Mountain Man
- 15 and up - The more advanced, 3-day EXTREME MOUNTAIN MAN
Below is the link to the winter camp 2018 addendum listing the merit badge classes available this year. Please look it over and let me know what merit badges and/or activities you are interested in.
- Registration just opened, and is on a first come first served basis, so get your choices to me ASAP!
- The base cost is $45/person (including adults). There are a number of merit badges and activities that have an additional supply cost as well - please refer to the guide for those costs.
- Youth - I need your top 3 choices, followed by 2 alternates in the event that some fill up.
- Adults - there are also some good training opportunities to earn your CPR and wilderness first aid certification.
- The Troop must pay by 12/14 in order to avoid any penalties, so I need your payment no later than the scout meeting on 12/10.

Planning:
- We will leave from the scout hut on 12/27. There are no activities that day beyond the opening campfire. We will plan to get there with plenty of daylight to get our camp set up and running for the week though. Plan for a sack lunch that day.
- The troop will provide meals while at camp while also working with Scouts trying to complete their cooking requirements for rank and/or merit badge advancement. I guarantee that we will be eat well at camp!
- For those of you working on cooking requirements please let me know. We will have. A grub meeting to help with the meal planning along with shopping prior to camp.
- If you have any dietary restrictions please let me know so we can make arrangements to accommodate.
- There will be a grub fee for all campers as well. That amount will be determined at a later date based on the number of mouths we have to feed.
- I will need a minimum of 2 additional adults to attend with me, and more are always welcome. If you can only come part time we can make that work as well as long as we have adequate coverage and seats for the scouts.
Please respond directly to me if you are planning to attend (you can click my name below). For any adults I will also need to know how many available seats you have in your vehicle.
Thanks,
Kevin McClelland
