Troop 444 will offer the following low, medium and high adventure trips during the coming year. Our Troop prides itself on having a very vital, active program that gives Scouts and adults opportunities to grow through challenge and adversity.
OPTIONS:
- 12/26/16 to 12/31/16: Winter Camp at Camp Trevor Reese-Jones near Athens, Texas. This is a great place for Scouts to work on rank advancement and merit badges. It is open to all Scouts. The lead is to be determined.
- 12/26/16 to 12/31/16: Big Bend National Park, Texas. This will be a 2 night/3 day backpacking trip in the Chisos Mountain area of this remote, beautiful park in the southwest corner of Texas. It is a good alternative for Scouts 13 and older who are looking for a chance to improve their outdoor skills. If there are Scouts under 13 who would like to go, and adults who can accompany them, then there can be a group that day hikes while the others backpack. Travel will be by land. Lester Cox will be the lead.
- 3/11/17 to 3/19/17: Grand Canyon, Arizona. This will be a five night backpacking trip in one of the amazing natural wonders of the world. It is open to Scouts 14 years and older, adults, and Troop alumni. Travel will be by air to Phoenix, then by land to the Canyon. Jay Downs will be the lead.
- June, 2017: During a week to be determined during the first three weeks of June, Summer camp at Camp Constantine on Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas. This is a fun time and also a good place for Scouts to work on advancement. It is open to Scouts of all ages. Travel will be by land. The lead is to be determined.
- 7/1/17 to 7/9/17: Olympic National Park, Washington. This will be a trip that involves 4 days/3 nights of backpacking in the mountains followed by visits to an incredible rain forest and a beautiful, rocky beach. This park is like no other. It is open to those 14 and older, adults and Troop alumni. If there are enough adults to supervise, then there can be a second group of Scouts under 14 who can day hike. Travel will be by air to Seattle followed by land to the park. Jay Downs will be the lead.
- 7/16/17 to 7/28/16: Philmont Scout Ranch. This is a ten day backpacking trip in New Mexico for Scouts that are 14 years and older as well as adults. It features an extended period of time on the trail. Travel will be by land. Bram Franklin will be the lead.
COST
The cost of these trips is being determined. The Troop works hard to try to make them reasonably priced. Please communicate with the designated trip leader for estimates and exact costs as they are determined. Camperships are available based on need and troop participation.
RESERVING A PLACE
If you are interested in any of these trips please contact the trip lead about the details and any questions you may have. Room is pretty much unlimited for summer camp and winter camp. The Philmont trip can accommodate 12 only. The Big Bend, Grand Canyon and Olympic National Park trips are in National Parks where we need to make trail reservations and there are limitations on the size of groups allowed into the back country, so let us know as early as you can so we can plan. We can have multiple groups on the trail if we have enough adults.
Thank you very much.
